Section 1Load profile and securement plan
  • Confirm site, vehicle or trailer ID, shipment reference, date, route or destination, and load-securing inspection scope are recorded.
  • Identify cargo type, quantity, packaging, handling units, dimensions, weight, center-of-gravity concerns, and any special securement requirements.
  • Confirm the selected vehicle or trailer, deck, body, curtains, doors, anchor points, and restraint system are suitable for the intended load.
  • Review previous load-shift events, damaged restraints, rejected loads, cargo claims, roadside findings, and open securement corrective actions.
  • Confirm responsibilities are defined across loading, transport, driver, warehouse, safety, and specialist owners where required.
  • Record the initial securement status as compliant, corrective action required, restricted, or dispatch held.
Section 3Pallets, packaging, and unit-load stability
  • Inspect pallets, skids, stillages, cages, totes, crates, drums, containers, or other load supports for damage that could reduce stability.
  • Check cartons, bags, drums, reels, containers, or other goods are stacked and arranged to remain stable during transport.
  • Verify stretch wrap, shrink wrap, banding, corner boards, lids, covers, nets, or other packaging controls are intact where required.
  • Check cargo does not lean, bow, protrude dangerously, overhang excessively, or create falling-object risk before securement is applied.
  • Confirm damaged, leaking, unstable, or compromised packages are repaired, overpacked, restacked, or removed from the load before dispatch.
  • Escalate failed pallets, unstable stacks, damaged packaging, severe overhang, leakage, or other unit-load conditions that could undermine securement.
Section 5Tiedown placement, routing, and tension
  • Verify tiedowns are positioned and routed to restrain the load in the directions required by the approved securement method.
  • Check tiedowns are not twisted, knotted, crossed incorrectly, trapped, or routed over sharp edges without suitable protection.
  • Confirm each tiedown is attached to a suitable anchor point and does not rely on damaged bodywork, weak packaging, or unauthorized attachment locations.
  • Apply tension evenly enough to secure the load without crushing, cutting, deforming, or otherwise damaging the cargo or packaging.
  • Check edge protectors, sleeves, corner guards, friction aids, mats, or other supporting devices are used where required by the load plan.
  • Escalate loose, poorly routed, damaged, incorrectly attached, over-tensioned, or under-tensioned tiedowns that could allow load movement.
Section 7Doors, curtains, bulkheads, and containment
  • Check doors, curtains, tailgates, shutters, partitions, bulkheads, sideboards, gates, or other containment systems are in serviceable condition.
  • Verify containment devices are fully closed, latched, locked, tensioned, pinned, or otherwise secured as required by the approved method.
  • Confirm containment systems are used only within their approved role and are not treated as primary load restraint when additional securement is required.
  • Check cargo cannot press against doors or curtains in a way that could cause sudden release, structural failure, or injury when opened.
  • Inspect internal rails, load bars, cargo gates, mesh, nets, straps, or separators for correct engagement and safe condition where used.
  • Escalate damaged doors, failed curtains, insecure tailgates, defective partitions, overloaded containment, or other failures that could permit cargo loss.
Section 9Final securement verification and documentation
  • Complete a final walkaround or load-space review to confirm all restraints, anchor points, blocks, braces, doors, and containment devices are correctly positioned.
  • Check tiedown tension, attachment, routing, edge protection, blocking, and cargo stability after final loading movements are complete.
  • Verify no loose tools, unused restraints, packaging, dunnage, pallets, or equipment can move freely during transport.
  • Confirm final gross or axle weight, load plan, seal number, securement record, photographs, or other required evidence is complete where the operation requires it.
  • Ensure the driver receives any load-specific instructions, recheck requirements, route restrictions, special handling notes, or securement limitations before departure.
  • Do not release the vehicle when final securement cannot be verified, required evidence is incomplete, or critical restraints remain questionable.
Section 2Load distribution and vehicle stability
  • Check the load is distributed to avoid unsafe front, rear, side-to-side, axle, or center-of-gravity imbalance under the approved loading plan.
  • Verify cargo placement does not exceed approved vehicle, trailer, floor, axle, rack, liftgate, or equipment limits.
  • Place heavier or denser cargo in approved positions and avoid unsupported concentrated loads that could damage the vehicle or destabilize the load.
  • Check mixed, tall, irregular, liquid, cylindrical, machinery, or other special loads for additional stability or restraint needs.
  • Verify cargo does not interfere with vehicle controls, doors, refrigeration airflow, emergency equipment, vents, or required access points.
  • Escalate overload, axle-risk, severe imbalance, unsupported concentrated loads, unstable center of gravity, or other placement that makes transport unsafe.
Section 4Anchor points and securement equipment condition
  • Inspect vehicle or trailer anchor points, rails, tracks, rings, hooks, posts, bars, or other attachment points for damage, looseness, corrosion, or deformation.
  • Check straps, webbing, chains, cables, binders, tensioners, bars, nets, ropes, locks, or other securement equipment for cuts, wear, broken parts, corrosion, or contamination.
  • Verify restraint equipment is appropriate for the cargo, vehicle, operating environment, and approved load-securing method.
  • Check hooks, fittings, ratchets, buckles, tensioners, connectors, chain links, and end attachments engage correctly and are free from defects affecting use.
  • Remove or quarantine damaged, modified, improvised, unidentified, or otherwise unacceptable restraint equipment before loading continues.
  • Escalate failed anchor points, damaged tiedowns, incompatible fittings, missing securement equipment, or other conditions that reduce restraint reliability.
Section 6Blocking, bracing, dunnage, and void control
  • Check blocking, bracing, dunnage, wedges, chocks, cradles, shoring, bulkheads, partitions, or other restraint components are suitable for the cargo.
  • Verify blocking or bracing is positioned to control expected movement and is supported by suitable vehicle or trailer structure.
  • Check gaps and voids are managed so cargo cannot build momentum, shift, roll, tip, or collapse during normal transport conditions.
  • Inspect timber, plastic, inflatable, metal, composite, or other dunnage for damage, poor fit, contamination, or deterioration affecting performance.
  • Verify cylindrical, wheeled, rolling, hanging, suspended, or other movement-prone loads use the approved chocking, cradling, blocking, or locking method.
  • Escalate missing blocking, unsupported bracing, uncontrolled voids, damaged dunnage, or restraints that cannot prevent expected cargo movement.
Section 8Special cargo securement
  • Confirm dangerous, regulated, fragile, high-value, temperature-controlled, liquid, long, tall, heavy, or other special cargo follows the approved securement method.
  • Check incompatible products, dangerous goods, food, pharmaceutical, chemical, or other sensitive cargo is segregated and contained as required.
  • Verify drums, reels, coils, pipes, cylinders, machinery, vehicles, equipment, or wheeled loads use suitable cradles, chocks, chains, straps, or locking devices.
  • Check temperature-controlled cargo remains arranged so securement does not block required airflow, sensors, evaporators, or return-air paths.
  • Confirm spill containment, secondary containment, covers, weather protection, security seals, or specialist restraint is present where required.
  • Escalate missing specialist securement, leakage, incompatible cargo, unsecured rolling loads, blocked airflow, or other special-cargo conditions that make dispatch unsafe.
Section 10Defects, corrective actions, and dispatch release
  • Classify findings by load distribution, pallet or packaging, anchor point, tiedown, tension, routing, blocking, bracing, containment, special cargo, or other approved category.
  • Prioritize findings using load-shift potential, cargo weight, vehicle stability, falling-object risk, dangerous-goods exposure, security, recurrence, and urgency.
  • Apply immediate controls such as holding dispatch, restacking cargo, replacing damaged restraints, correcting distribution, adding approved blocking, or isolating defective equipment.
  • Create corrective actions with named owners, due dates, required securement correction, specialist support, evidence expectations, and final verification criteria.
  • Review recurring loose loads, damaged straps, anchor-point failures, overloading, unstable pallets, poor restraint selection, load-shift events, and dispatch holds for systemic causes.
  • Record final load-securing status, critical open findings, restrictions, corrective actions, final verification, loading lead, driver acknowledgement where required, and dispatch approval.
